Disney is making waves… but this time none of their starlets are naked. The newest Disney Princess is going to be black, not that big a deal considering the President of the United States of America is black, but a big deal for Disney. Other than Jasmine from Alladin and Pocahontas (who let’s face it, isn’t really a princess) all the Disney ladies have been white. The big controversy is that she’s falling in love with a non-black prince. The Princess and The Frog will be released in theaters later this year and will feature Princes Tiana and a cast that is primarily black… except for Prince Naveen of Maldonia who is voiced by a Brazilian actor. Lots of parents are saying that Disney missed the chance to show a very strong black couple in their production. Thoughts?

I think Disney is in a ‘Damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. Had they made the prince a black prince, then they would have come under scrutiny about not acknowledging inter racial relationships. Race is going to be an issue for as long as we MAKE it an issue.

I think it’s about damn time! Kids need to learn acceptance, and know that 2 people can love each other. Regardless of Race,Ethnic,Gender,or anything else! SO good job Disney
