Twitter Being Taught In Classrooms

twitter-classroom_440x295 Twitter Being Taught In Classrooms

Over in Britain teachers are about to be given more discretion when it comes to what lessons they teach in their classrooms. A leaked government report will “emphasize the continued necessity of teaching traditional subjects such as spelling, history and arithmetic, it also recommends that students be taught about online media and instructed about web-based skills including how to use a spell checker.”

One of the key messages in the report is that children should be taught about “online phenomena” like Twitter, Wikipedia and more. Children will need to “leave primary school familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia and Twitter as sources of information and forms of communication. They must gain ‘fluency’ in handwriting and keyboard skills, and learn how to use a spell checker alongside how to spell.”
