Rumor: Google Plans To Buy Twitter

twitter-logo-440x250 Rumor: Google Plans To Buy Twitter

Whoa… in the interweb world everyone tries to buy everyone out. It’s usually not that big a deal… at all. The bigger companies devour the smaller ones, usually turning them into cr@p. Google is rumored to be in talks with Twitter. From what I hear, they are in late stage negotiations with Twitter and acquire it at a price well over $250 million. Twitter recently turned down an offer from Facebook for half a billion because it was based on an overvalued Facebook stock price. Google would be paying cash money and/or publicly valued stock (the same thing as cash).

The question is, why on earth would Google want to acquire Twitter? Well… it’s basically a real time search engine. Connecting people with news as it happens. (remember the gal that tweeted about her OB/GYN being “inside her” when the earthquake hit?) Google, sadly, doesn’t have a very good hold on that concept and Twitter is leading the pack…

In a non-denial blog post entitled “Sometimes We Talk” Twitter co-Founder Biz Stone says: “It should come as no surprise that Twitter engages in discussions with other companies regularly and on a variety of subjects.”
