German Singer Arrested For HIV

One of the members of the most successful girl band to come out of Germany has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm by infecting a partner with HIV. Nadja Benaissa, a member of No Angels, is alleged to have had unprotected sex with three people without telling them that she was HIV positive. One of those men has since tested positive for the virus. Nadja is only 26 and has one child.

She was arrested on Saturday evening shortly before she was supposed to give a solo performance. She remained in custody after a judge ruled that there was danger she might repeat her offense. The public prosecutor in the town of Darmstadt said she’s being held for “urgent suspicion that the accused had unprotected sexual intercourse with three people in the years 2004 and 2006 without telling them beforehand that she was HIV positive”. The public was unaware before this story broke that the singer had the disease. If found guilty, she could face up to 10 years in prison.
