Now those of you who have purchased CDs know how much trouble it is to take that plastic wrap off. And then to remove the front insert and especially removing the back insert from the CD case without breaking the plastic case can be tricky. So what it all boils down to is that the Saudi government is actually paying religious police members of the Committee for the Protection of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (CVPVP) to remove the plastic wrap from these CDs, open up the CD cases, remove the front and back inserts, and carefully and painstakingly color in with a marker any photos baring exposed female flesh that is deemed objectionable. Hence, while the general public is protected from such vulgarity, the CVPVP members get to view photos with women’s flesh abounding and then get to stroke on colored markers over the exposed women’s skin. I wonder what they are thinking or how they feel as they stroke those markers onto the smooth female flesh in the photos. I wonder if it makes them feel good that they are shielding young teenage boys from such crude displays of the nubile female form.

hey
i would like to make a small comment if you don’t mind, as am reading this katy perry colored body subject caught my attention, any way just to make things a bit clearer about why they covered her arms, chest, legs etc.. it has few simple reasons that might help you to understand hopefully..
simply saudi arabia is an islamic country and in the islamic religion a man should not see a women with no cover
she can only show only her face and hands not the whole arm!
unless if she was his mom , sister , wife, aunt, mother in law, daughter, grandaughter, his son’s wife, his gramma, his mother aunt. those are ok to see without HIJAB other words headcover.
Islam shows such respect for women to not show her body or some of it to anyone only people who are allowd and worth.
so no cheating between the wives and husbend goes on , think about it this way if a man saw a women or a girl with a bikini on won’t he feel a bit horny and goes on thinking about her wat if he was sick and raped her, wat if he was married and got to know the woman and cheated on his wife and the the woman got prignant and then the man denied it all and you know all the drama that happens i mean do you see wat i mean its make problem. it’s all connected to each other somehow…
thank you
with all my respect to all

To Lana - I am the American blogger in Saudi Arabia who wrote this originally and posted the photos of the doctored CD that I purchased for my son. I appreciate your explanation, however the truth is, television content here is much worse than Katy Perry’s little display of flesh on her album cover. Censorship in this country is very inconsistent. If Saudi men would be required to keep control of their urges, as most men all over the world seem to be able to do, then women here wouldn’t be punished into wearing black from head to toe in this blazing heat. I realize that rape happens, but it happens here in KSA too -despite women being covered up like nuns.
