So a big squirrel was trying to show a baby squirrel how to jump a wall… but the baby squirrel was just too little. Some human intervention was required and the baby squirrel makes it up and over. Umm… I want a baby squirrel.

Proof positive that the Human Race is worth saving after all. That was sweet.
Comment by Circe — April 28, 2009 @ 4:51 pm
Good job, now that baby squirrel will never learn how to jump a wall (at least the music was good).
Comment by Bruce — April 28, 2009 @ 6:58 pm
Really great video, but for the love of god, let the footage speak for itself.
Your text was obnoxious and actually ruined the better scenes by spoiling them.
Comment by Konger — April 28, 2009 @ 8:16 pm
Humans put that wall there in the first place, only a few humans are worth saving
Comment by Steve — April 28, 2009 @ 8:56 pm
Why the fuck did you cut the scene off every 10 fucking seconds? Jesus Christ just let the fucking video play and stop being a damn cunt. Son of a bitch I hate shitty editing. Could have summed up the entire situation in one fucking minute but had to stretch it the fuck out. Go back to editing class, god damn it.
Comment by Al hates this shitty vid — April 28, 2009 @ 9:14 pm
Except now the baby squirrel will probably die due to being trained that a human will help it out in a dire situation.
Comment by Jason — April 28, 2009 @ 9:23 pm
Whoever edited this video needs to be punched in the face until he understands that the entire purpose of a video is to show an event, not to write a novel one interjection at a time.
That said, this was pretty cute.
Comment by Anonysquirrel — April 28, 2009 @ 10:40 pm
Interesting video.
The narration/”explanation” thing was completely unnecessary and really distracting though. I just wanted to watch the video, not stop every five seconds and read a description of what I had just seen.
Comment by EggSpoon — April 28, 2009 @ 10:45 pm
OMG I want one!!!
Comment by Chazza — April 28, 2009 @ 10:55 pm
This video would be bearable if it weren’t for all the annoying interruptions with the comments. UCLA students managed to take a good raw video and edit it to be unwatchable. Way to go. I hope this assignment got a failing grade.
Comment by Yuriy — April 28, 2009 @ 11:39 pm

hi, great video, great song…the captions were super-frustrating tho (we could see what was happening)

Cut to black one more time in 10 secs you stupid idiot. CUT it. F$”#king moron, leave the tape alone without your stupid BS editing.
And why so many credits???
I just some f$#”king squirrels how hard is it to put camera on the floor and keep on rolling???
Comment by dsa — April 29, 2009 @ 7:17 am
Should NOT have helped the little squirrel. He’d have learned, but now — no. A predator will be behind him and he will not be able to get over the wall he should have been.
Survival of the fittest, and sometimes the fittest have to fail a bit to learn how to be the fittest.

when these little ones need help, we need to step in and help. they did a great job. at least mom and baby are together. the baby will learn to do this, i wished he was in the woods, he would have already had this down pat. Great job. sure is wonderful that there are caring people out there. i have rehabbed 1000’s of squirrels and they all learn differently, some quick some slow. some are mental from falls and birth defects. so don’t judge this little one
Comment by wildlife rehabber — April 29, 2009 @ 10:53 am
wow. im glad people are mad at you for something you didnt even video tape. and just because someone put a bag on the ground doesnt mean he’s not going to learn. it has nothing to do with learning, hes just to short. and its not like they picked him up and put him on the wall. people get mad/aggravated at the smallest things. its amazing.

Watched it twice and loved it very much! Cannot wonder what would of happen if someone didn’t help.
Happy, someone was there to help.

Great video, would be better if you cut the text scenes by half…
At least dont go to black+text, keep the video rolling while the text is on…
Comment by Arturo — April 29, 2009 @ 4:42 pm
Boo on the people who dissed the editing, and double boo on the people who fail to realize that baby squirrels use human objects every day. They just sometimes are not placed there specifically for the squirrel. He’ll be just fine.
Huzzah for the indomitable human spirit! And kudos to the students for caring.
Comment by Kaite — April 29, 2009 @ 7:11 pm
glad to see ucla students being productive. whoever edited this ruined it, the words every ten seconds sucked. i’m pretty sure everyone can realize what’s going on. maybe you should be in class instead of filming squirrels… oh wait, i momentarily forgot we were talking about ucla students. WOOPS.
also, that’s a cover of heartbeats, the original is by jose gonzalez.

How tragic when one captures a moment of human interest yet to be so verbally assaulted by those who are filled with disdain, disrespect and pure hate for others…..
If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. My mom had the right idea, and I learned to treat other human beings, and animals, as God calls us to.
Comment by Gail — April 29, 2009 @ 11:02 pm
thats just to damn adorable
Comment by Arthese — April 30, 2009 @ 12:34 am
I love to see the goodness in some people! You didn’t compromise the little guy at all, kudos for not trying to pick him up. He’s just learning to move around and like most things in life it takes practice!
Comment by Michigan Rehabber — April 30, 2009 @ 8:58 pm
I thought it was too cute and how wonderful it is that people care so much about the cute little guys.
I think it is possible to express your feelings without using such horrible language though.
Comment by Mary — April 30, 2009 @ 9:04 pm
Great video, and the situation has amazing thematic elements that you can pull out of it, but damn was it annoying to have the video cut out every 2 seconds for an unnecessary narration.
Comment by Joe — April 30, 2009 @ 11:07 pm
Don’t meddle with nature. That squirrel should have been “selected” because it failed to clear the wall. You’ve just let weak genetic code into the gene pool.
Comment by Ted — May 1, 2009 @ 10:41 am
People are good.
Comment by rose — May 1, 2009 @ 12:45 pm
That squirrel would actually be part of the fit category. It adapted to the situation when a tool was provided. A lesser creature that would be considered less fit and not selected would have ignored the tool and not adapted.

Fuck you liberal arts loving spinster faggots and your handicams. Nobody needs your explanation. Nobody wants to hear your story. Nobody needs to hear Feist. We care about the squirrel, not the fact that you can add music to a timeline on your macbook pro. You are not a director/editor. Drop the credits and the fairy tale commentry you arrogant UCLA cunt.
Comment by Rob — May 4, 2009 @ 1:14 pm
You know what you bunch of arrogant assholes give the editor of this video a break. I thought it was well done and creative.. People are allowed to object to someones work but to personally attack ones character for disagreeing with a video? give me a break.. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. It’s comments from individuals like so many I see here that really disgust me.
Comment by Ian Warren — May 9, 2009 @ 5:50 pm
Amen! Use subtitles OVER the video next time!

I used to feed the squirrels where I worked, and believe me, they don’t tame too easily. Actually, I had a few who climbed my pants leg to get peanuts (really! LOL) but they were still plenty wild and could take care of themselves. Great video, but the writing was too frequent and distracted from a little drama that needed no explanation.
Comment by Susan — May 12, 2009 @ 2:13 pm
UCLA squirrels are ferocious. this video makes them look much sweeter than they are.

Great vid. The captions were also nice.
Comment by Dig — December 4, 2009 @ 9:38 am
I’ve enjoyed this video ever since I first saw it about 8 months ago, and all the naysayers are colossal jerks. it’s obvious that the captions are put in to stretch the footage so it comprises the length of the song chosen to accompany it, which, by the way, made it that much sweeter. Some people just have too much difficulty appreciating the little things. The squirrel wasn’t damaged; they’re incredibly adaptive little creatures. I’m glad people were nice enough to help, and I’m equally glad someone was there to capture it on film for the rest of us. Thanks for sharing!!
